Writing has always been a part of Amy Ahlert’s life. She grew up as the daughter and granddaughter of a couple of heavyweight composers of the twentieth century. Fred Ahlert, her grandfather, first inductee in the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, was one of the songwriter’s of the Great American Songbook, a term referring to the standards that have been, and continue to be performed by some of the best talent of both centuries.
Her Dad, Richard Ahlert, a composer and lyricist was instrumental in instilling in his daughter a love of the written word and knowledge of great music.
Amy began writing early and continued in many arenas. As a young woman she wrote and hosted the first cable television show on Long Island’s East End and soon brought her magazine format program to cable stations in New York City.
Her just released new novel, Camp Hamptons, is a story that is both prescient and political with twists and turns that keep the reader engaged until the last page.
The response to this has been terrific as she has been invited to do Author Talks. It is available for purchase on previously mentioned platforms and will be available in independent book stores.
Her second novel, The District, will be out in the fall of 2025 and it is a doozy according to those few readers who have seen the manuscript! She is very excited about this one! It will be available for sale on online platforms and in stores and libraries.
Her skills as an artist were put to good use when she created Award Winning Shops and a Café in Larchmont New York, where seventy percent of the inventory were hand painted pieces by the author. She also designed a wholesale ceramic line, and displayed it at the International Gift Show In New York City.
At the turn of the Millennium, she began teaching Gourmet Cooking, Singing, Acting, Writing, and Art in classes all over Westchester County, New York and at times, to students in Europe, Turkey and Canada. She formed a Jazz trio and performed in the Tri-State Area. She recorded music which is available on our website now. Her recordings are airing on Jazz stations here and in France.
She continues to teach singing privately. Lessons can be booked on this website. Original recipes, inspired from her over 20 years of teaching her wildly popular gourmet cooking classes, will soon be available on this site. She taught the art of cuisine to special needs adults and to kids of all ages.
Amy was on the Artswestchester Teaching Artist Roster for almost 20 years, teaching adults and younger students with a wide range of abilities. Her decades of experience in working with people who have special needs stems from her own need to advocate and learn every facet of special education law in order to procure the finest education for her son.
She created Amy Ahlert Arts LLC to share her work with you, the visitor, to this site.
You can see her gliding on her favorite bike along the Hudson River most mornings! Feel free to say Hello!
